Beauty Recipes…

by Administrator | No Comments

Well December is here, one of the three coldest months of the year. And with it comes dry, flaky, itchy skin. Here are a few home remedies & recipes Tammi Gindle of JuJu Spa and Organics shared on ABC’s Action News last night to help combat dry skin:

- Get a bottle of Primrose oil capsules. Poke a little pin prick in the capsules and put it right on the irritated areas.

- Combine one tablespoon dry oatmeal with one tablespoon honey. Slather it on your worst areas and let it sit for 30 minutes

- Combine one tablespoon dry oatmeal with one egg white. Place on your skin and leave it on for 10 minutes

- Tea tree oil has been known to penetrate into the skin’s cellular level. Add 1 drop of oil to your favorite day or night cream to help moisturize and smooth skin.

- Half an hour before you take your bath, massage yourself either with warm olive, mustard or coconut oil. After bathing blot yourself dry; do not rub yourself dry

- Dry Skin Mask
1 egg
1 tsp. honey
½ tsp. olive oil
Few drops rose water
Mix together and use as a mask

- Fruit Recipe
puree 1 banana
puree 1 papaya, peach or avocado
Apply to skin for 20 min., rinse with warm water, follow with moisturizer

Obama Nails It!…

by Administrator | No Comments

I was praying for Obama to win so I could post this pic!…lol. For the last few weeks, celebs like Bey, Solange and Eve have been seen with Obama nails. I’m sure a lot of people will be jumping on the Minx bandwagon now.

Made of film, Minx is a nail coating that comes in foil and sparkly metallics, photo-quality designs and several colors. Completely customized nails!

Cetaphil is mostly known for it’s cleanser. It’s a favorite with Dermatologists because of it’s “gentleness”. I don’t use their cleanser myself, but I have started using their daytime moisturizer. It’s a light non-greasy lotion that sinks right in. It’s fragrance free and non-comedogenic so it’s great for all skin types and won’t irritate. It may be in my head, but this is the only moisturizer with SPF that hasn’t caused any breakouts. And best of all, it’s inexpensive ($9) and available pretty much everywhere!

According to celeb makeup artist Mally Roncal, one of the top ways you can stay looking fresh and young is with a light, glossy lip. Her signature look is glowing skin, a smokey eye and a sexy nude lip. Doesn’t that sound like classic J.Lo? I also love the looks she’s created on Bey and Mary J too. Anyways, I’ve always had a hard time creating the nude lip and always ended up with a too pale, washed out, ashy looking lip….sooo not “fresh and young”. It just wasn’t an easy look to create…until now!

Last year Mally added City Chick Nude Lip Kit to her makeup line, Mally Beauty.

It’s a 3-step nude lip kit that is so easy to apply. The kit includes a double-ended lip pencil (primer and liner) and a nude lip gloss. First you apply the primer that creates the base for your nude lip, next you line your lips and last apply your gloss and VOILA! Honestly, sometimes, if I’m in a rush, I will only wear the gloss. It’s great on it’s own too!

The kit comes in two shades: Nude Light and Nude Deep and is available @ QVC and HBendel for $25

I’ve raved in the past about Neutrogena’s body oil. It’s a light, sesame oil that is great for moisturiztion. Once applied, it leaves a soft and silky feel with a healthy glow. It’s best applied immediately after bathing to damp skin. Available for about $9.

Equate Body Oil is a similar body oil with the same benefits. It’s claims are that it conditions and moisturizes the skin leaving it soft and supple. Available for about $4 @ Walmart.

After reading DE’s raves about the Aubrey Organics conditioners, I decided to give the line a try. A few months ago, mid June-ish, I went on the website and was completely overwhelmed with the many options. So I called the company and got a quick consult over the phone. After speaking with the rep, she recommended the Island Naturals shampoo/conditioner.

So, I purchased the two at Whole Foods and have been in love with the conditioner since. The shampoo, on the other hand, I didn’t fancy. After washing with the shampoo, my hair had that squeaky – clean feeling. Um, I HATE that! I feel like it stripped my hair and made it super dry. But I’m guessing it’s because it’s an all natural shampoo and there aren’t any silicones and other stuff coating my hair, which I guess is a good thing???? Afterwards, I applied the conditioner and OMGAH!!!! FANTASTIC! The conditioner is thick and coats the hair really well. The end result, shiny, soft, comb-through easily, manageable hair!

The Aubrey Organics line has been around since the late 60′s and have a pretty simple philosophy: great ingredients make great products. They take pride in using only the finest herbal, plant extracts and natural vitamins in all of their products. NO SULFATES are used. All hair types can use this line including dry, normal and oily. I myself prefer the Island Naturals for my permed hair. The White Camelia conditioner, works great on my daughter’s thick, curly hair.

Available @ Whole Foods.

Your Sweetest Spot…

by Administrator | No Comments

Yup, it’s time to talk about it. Aside from the bi-weekly/monthly waxes, are we really taking care of our vajayjays? We pay special attention to and have special products for our eyes, teeth, underarms and other body parts., but what about down there? Now take a look in your beauty aresenal ( go ahead I’ll still be here) and tell me how many products are in there for down there? Um yeah, that’s what I thought. Sweet Spot Labs has taken care of that and has a line of gentle, ph-balanced products especially for your sweetest spot.

Having worked in women’s health for a few years now, I’ve seen tons of ladies, young and old, who think the remedy to all vajayjay problems is douching. You can ask any women’s healthcare professional, douching is a no-no, and can possibly make whatever problems you’re having, worse. Sweet Spot Labs products are carefully ph – balanced ( highlight that) for our area. Why does that matter? Because, pH is the measure of acidity. Our sweet spot has a ph of about 4. So to keep bacteria away and maintain a healthy spot, products we use should not exceed that ph level. With the ph and a blend of natural essential oils created to go along with your natural scent, Sweet Spot products takes care of that worry and concern.

The Gentle wash in Basil Grapefruit is my fav. Products include wipettes, mists, washes and the all new bidet-in-a-bottle….GENIUS! ( Quick freshen-ups for unexpected events )…tee-hee…j/k. Scents include citrus galbanum geranium lavender, basil grapefruit or unscented.

I get my products from Douglas Cosmetics over here in Philly, but you can check out their website for more info and other locations!
